Drawing, sketching, illustration

A selection of drawings, from nature studies to portraits and everything in between. Self-taught at first, ever since I could hold a pencil in my hands, followed by serious drawing classes at the University, for which I have to thank my wonderful teachers. They have opened my eyes and taught me how to perceive the visual world around me, pretty much in the same way as the wipers clean the windscreens of cars. The feeling was that all of a sudden I could see. An odd ode to my wonderful teachers.

Sunny January

THE BEE

I remember exactly that sunny, snowy January day. When my father brought home a bunch of snowdrops and we found a bee amongst the flowers. We thought she was dead, but her little antenna was slightly moving to the rhythm of her breath. So we saved her. Fed her honey, made a tiny house for her, next to the snowdrops. She became our friend.

I did this portrait after a photograph when I was 18 years old, as self-taught. At University I started to learn more in depth drawing, by sketching objects, observing nature and studying human anatomy.

Structures

organic vs calculated

From self-taught to serious and calculated sketching. I was 16 when I did the drawing on the left, while the one on the right was an assignement at the University, based on knowledge aquired about drawing and sketching.

Observing

geometry in nature

Finding structures and amazing geometry and patterns in nature can be very inspiring and innovative for a designer. The final structure from inside the circle reminds me of the non-euclidian geometry of Janos Bolyai - a Romanian-Hungarian mathematician.(http://www.telekiteka.ro/3247)

ANATOMY STUDY

Using Barcsay and Gheorghiu anatomy books, plus my own hands as a model, to learn in depth delicate structural drawing and human anatomy.
